The town of Apt is set in the beautiful Luberon area in Provence in the South of France.

In May, June & September average temperatures are in the mid-20s. July and August are always very warm: 30-33.   Blue skies are the norm throughout most of the year!

Apt is known to tens of thousands of holiday-makers for its massive Saturday market. But Apt is lively all year round and something of a hidden jewel in this classic part of Provence. You won't find any chain stores in the old town but a range of family run shops, cafes and restaurants.  There's even a thriving local cinema,

Apt itself is at the centre of the Luberon and benefits from being close to the classic Provencal villages, including Bonnieux, Roussillon and Lacoste etc with their busy markets, amazing views and great places to eat and drink.

The area is a classic spot for cycling which is particularly popular in the slightly cooler months of May, June & September.  There is a long flat cycle-way along the bottom of the valley running from Coustellet in the west tp into the hills in the east.  This is perfect for easy cycling. There are many cycle routes allong the hillsides between the villages which provide more testing options.  Cycles can be hired in Apt (or Coustellet where you can also hire electric bikes).  We have some bikes in the garage for our personal use, but you can arrange to use them upon request. (You might need to pump up the tyres!)

For those of you that enjoy water sports, why not indulge in kayaking at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The river is very pretty and family-friendy. There is tree-walking in the magnificent ochre hills nearby at Colorado Provençale, which is on the road from Apt to Rustrel.  There is also tree walking between Lagnes and Fontaine de Vaucluse, near where the canoes and kayaks start. Our house guide provides more details on all these matters.
